Size Doesn't Matter: Creating Healthy Family Meals in Any Kitchen

Hey there! Just a heads up – this content may contain some affiliate links. That means if you decide to purchase something I've recommended, I might earn a small commission (while you don't pay anything extra). It's like a virtual high-five from the vendor for introducing you to their awesome products, and I genuinely appreciate your support! Rest assured, I only recommend tools and resources I truly believe in.

Probably one of the only times I'll say this with sincerity:

Size. Doesn't. Matter.

Not when it comes to kitchens. Even micro kitchens are a go. Great news right? I mean, how often is micro anything potentially pleasurable?

Some women entrepreneurs believe that their kitchen is "too small to cook proper food in" which leads to not nourishing yourself the way your deserve.

Let's change perspective - seriously changing perspective changes what you see and get you nourishing yourself well.

When it comes to tiny and bizarre kitchen spaces, I have certainly had plenty of experience over the years.

Today, I'm going to share with you all my tiny kitchen secrets around cooking wicked food for you and your family. Even with your kids. In tiny spaces. And yes, it works for regular spaces too!

I'll never forget my nomadic UK life, living in a caravan with a makeshift kitchen in my awning consisting of just a chest of drawers, a bookshelf, and a two-burner gas hob.

Every Sunday, we'd transform that tiny space into a bustling Jamaican kitchen, producing 40+ authentic meals for our local farmers market.

From jerk chicken to vegetarian curries, fresh patties to crispy sweetcorn fritters - all while ensuring my own family enjoyed fresh, healthy meals daily.

It was so much fun!

You see, I've cooked in some VERY interesting spaces.

A normal kitchen with zero cupboards or drawers. Yeah, I'm still scratching my head about the designers' thought process on that one.

And currently, I'm working with my 2m x 1m kitchen from where I made meals for 15 homeless people at Christmas (2024). That same kitchen is where I run Tech & Tastes from while cooking and filming the process of world food with my toddler most nights.

So, you can't tell me you can't cook in your kitchen. You can.

Tiny Kitchen Secrets

It's not about space - it's about systems and organization.

When you're working with a tiny kitchen, every item must earn its place.

Here's what I've found essential after years of cooking in compact spaces:

Kitchen Essentials (That Actually Matter):

  • 3 quality knives (small, medium and a large)

  • A set of ceramic or cast iron pans (healthier than non-stick and more versatile)

These are super similar to my current set

  • Basic silicone cooking utensils (not a bloody set of 12!)

  • One set of family cutlery

  • Simple storage containers

  • Wall-mounted shelving units

I love my stainless steel chopping boards!

  • Organized baskets for dry goods

  • Quality vegetable peeler

Creating a Productive Home Environment:

But more important than what you have is how you use it. Decluttering isn't just about creating space - it's about creating clever systems.

When you remove the unnecessary, you make room for what matters: cooking nutritious meals and creating memories with your family - all whilst growing your business.

Think about it - with less equipment, there's:

  • Far less washing up piling in your tiny sink (reuse that cup!)
  • More counter space for actual cooking
  • Better organization for meal prepCompact exercise equipment
  • Clearer mind for creative cooking

This minimalist approach naturally leads to healthier cooking.

Without fancy gadgets or processed shortcuts, you focus on fresh ingredients and simple preparation methods.

My children have always helped me prepare fresh meals in our tiny kitchens, learning about healthy food choices while we create together.

Key Takaways

Remember: Your kitchen's size doesn't determine your family's health or your cooking potential. Whether you're in a caravan, a tiny apartment, or a modest home kitchen, you can create nourishing meals for your beautiful entrepreneurial mind and your kids. Together.
